Who was Matt Schmidt?

Matt was a loving father of 3, husband, brother, son and friend. On May 14, 2020, Matt tragically passed away from an accident at home while doing what he loved, crafting.

What is our Mission Statement?

Proceeds from the Annual Matt Schmidt Memorial Ice Fishing Tournament and Social Function will be allocated by determination of the executive committee based on the following criteria:

  1. All funds must go to provide experiences to youth in the outdoors.

  2. All funds (save seed money for the following year's event) must be disbursed in the year succeeding the event.

  3. To the greatest extent possible, at least 50% of funds should be allocated in Milton, WI, 25% to greater Rock County and the remaining 25% can be allocated statewide if no local cause can be identified.

  4. "Youth" is defined as anyone younger than 18 years old.

  5. Scholarship recipients may be older than 18 at the time of disbursement as long as they have applied for the scholarship while still in high school.

  6. Preference will be given to educational institutions and nonprofit organizations when there is competition for funds.

  7. Preference will be given to events that center around hunting and fishing when there is competition for funds.


Who we are

Matt's family and friends are working closely together with the massive community of people that Matt touched over the course of his life. Matt inspired so many and his loss has been heart wrenching for all of us. This event serves the dual purposes of memorializing an amazing man and supporting his loving family.
